School is approaching quickly as we only have a couple weeks of summer left! So, Emily and Jax came for a last hoorah before school starts. We have had a great time playing around the house, doing some back to school shopping, and swimming. Here are a few pictures from our visit...
After they noticed that I was snapping photos of the cuteness they said "no pictures, please"
Jax learned to read the same books that Kater is reading...so precious! We are so proud of him.
The kids had a blast running through the fountains at the shops. Sid has really warmed up to the activity.

We had a great time in early August celebrating my grandmother's, Nadine (Mimi), 85th birthday. We had a delicious dinner at Aunt Martha and Uncle Greg's house. Below are some pics from the celebration.
Silly kiddos are trying to take a sip of Uncle Chris' drink. They have no idea what it is- it just looks cool and they know they can't have it. :-)
They had so much fun with Uncle Greg and his cool remote control cars.
They had fun playing "jail" in Lewis' dog crate.
Sid and dog, Lewis, were best friends the second they saw each other.
A kiss good bye from Uncle Chris...

Kate and Sid spent the weekend of August 8th with Nana and Papaw while Justin and I threw a shower with my parents at their house. We came back to get them and Nana had taught Kate (age 3) to read!!! Well, it is not quite reading, but it is a start. It is sight memorization ("Sight Word Readers")- or something like that. She basically has memorized the words and associates them with the pictures on the pages. She can read 2 books now- Come See My Bugs and I See by Rozanne Lanczak Williams. It is so cool to see her read and to see her get so excited about reading by herself. Nana also gave her some sequencing cards that are really great - she is putting them in order more quickly each time. Sure is nice to have a teacher in the family :-)

This summer has been one of major milestones in Sid's young life. He started walking consistently in May. He has almost 9 teeth- including 2 molars that are peeking through. He is kicking a ball, going up and down the stairs, climbing up on chairs, eating all big boy foods, saying "Mommy" more regularly, and picking up multiple words a day. I am so behind on updates, I just wanted to make sure that I documented all of the exciting things happening with Sid.

Kate spent five days with Nana and Papaw this summer. We call it her "vacation"- Mommy, Daddy, and Sid painted the play room and caught up on things around the house. It was a huge blessing for everyone. Kate had lots of adventures and I hope to post pictures from Nana and Papaw soon.

Kate took swimming lessons this summer. She started off great the first few minutes of her first group lesson- shown in the pictures below with teacher Miss Mary. Then she got a little scared after she fell under the water a few times. So, we ended up following these lessons with some private lessons with Miss Kelly and she is showing lots of improvement!

Sid is so cute with books. He finds a good one out of a basket and then curls up on the sofa or on a chair and thumbs through the pages studying each one. Here are a couple of pictures of him reading one of his favorites that Nana got for him, Danny the Dinosaur..
Kate finally got over her nap strike and has transitioned into her "Big Girl Bed"!!!! She earned stickers for staying in bed and sleeping in the bed. Here she is the day she finally got all of her stickers to get Coconut- the dog we purchased at the American Girl store with our friends, the Vincents.

We had a great time with our friends the Vincents...But, I thought I had more pictures! So, I will just explain the highlights...we went to the American Girl store- the Vincent girls had saved their money to purchase dolls, clothing, etc.- They even held an art show to sell their fine masterpieces before their trip to TX! It was Kate's first visit to the store and she fell in love- mostly with the doll hair stylists. It was so neat. We also went to IKEA, had yummy food (we made homemade donuts shown below), shopped at the Highland Village shops, and let the girls run through the fountains there. The guys spent the night away at a cabin with other friends while Sara and I caught up. We really enjoyed visiting with them...

We had a great time visiting our family in Fort Worth. Here are some highlights...
We stayed at Mimi's and went to Aunt Bost's house to swim and have lunch. Below is cousin, Anthony diving in the pool...
Kate loved the swim vest...
Below you can see that we prepped Mimi's house for our visit...we put a blanket on Mimi's coffee table so that Sid could roll his cars over and Kate could play doctor, etc. We loved seeing Aunt Cynthia, Uncle Greg, Aunt Martha, Dolly, and Mimi.
Sid felt right at home on Mimi's lap...so sweet.
Kate was a waitress and took everyone's order...she was "out" of a lot of items, but seemed to always have chocolate available.

This summer was full of these every day moments. Here are a few items that were big hits for the kids this summer:
Reading Books- Both
Playing Hair / Nail Salon- Kate
Playing with Daddy's old matchbox cars- Mostly Sid
Playing outside in the pool, sand box, and toys- Both- but Sid can't live a day without playing outside a little :-)
Playing dress up and make believe with friends- Kate
Painting and coloring- Both
Going to the park and pool- Both
Running around and snuggling with visiting family and friends- Both
Having a snack and watching a "show"- Both (A major Caillou kick this summer, Dora, Curious George, Sesame Street, and Bernstein Bears)
Wrestling with each other on the floor while mommy pleads with them to play gentle- Both
Dumping over Cabby's water bowl multiple times a day and splashing in it- Sid
An early summer 2 1/2 month nap strike to stay up and play/drive mommy to her knees :-)- Kate
Lots of laughter, hugs, messes, and fun!!!
Our first swim in the Castlewood pool...
The usual morning time for Sid...he still is in love with his bottle. It is my greatest challenge right now- to dc them altogether.
Just hanging around with daddy. Only with daddy would they have story time by Warren Buffet. :-)
We had a lot of fun making cookies and cakes together this summer. She loves to bake!
Kate came to tell me that we ran out of toilet paper in the guest bath, but she replaced it for me. I went in and saw that she had replaced it with paper towels. It makes sense- it looks like tp and has a hole in the middle. I could see how that would work :-)
Doing some cheers- she loves cheering to a cheer video- Boomer Sooner! As you can see, Sid was not happy about me taking pictures of her while he had to wait in the exersaucer.

Kate and Daddy went on a date to the movies this summer. They saw "Up." She did great...Daddy said she lasted about an hour before she started talking and asked a lot of "Why" questions. She had a drink and popcorn- so cool!!!! Below is a picture from Dad's cell phone...

As most of you know, Kate LOVES her dentist. He happens to be her uncle and she is obsessed- no exaggeration- with him and his work. She talks about him, has me write his name, tell her stories about him and his work, etc. So, naturally, she was very excited for her dental cleaning. She did great! She was patient and still for her cleaning with Miss Christina and loved it when Uncle Chris told her she had no cavities! Here she is with Miss Christina and Uncle Chris...
Sid, on the other hand, was not so excited about his examination. I think he was very intimated by the light on Uncle Chris' head. She squirmed and fussed. Good thing Aunt Emmie was there to help!
We had a great time spending the afternoon at the Longs. Kater and Jax dressed up like veternarians...
Kate did Jax's nails...
The cousins...
Kate played her first video game. It was a penguin snow boarding- if I remember correctly...
Snuggling while watching a movie...
