Kate's First Day of Kindergarten

We just got home and the house is too quiet.  I have been teary all morning, but have yet to sob...I may not with all of the distractions from Maddy and Sid.  Kate was great- she was excited, happy, and taking it all in.  Justin seemed fine...I was a little bit of a mess.  My arms were shaky driving the car to the "secret, back way" to the school- I only made 1 wrong turn...whoo...  The school was busy, but we found our way to her classroom pretty easily.  She now has 22 students in her class...last year the averages were only 18- bummer.  Her teacher was the first to max out- I take this as a compliment to her teacher, that she can handle all of them.  After dropping her at class, we stopped by the library for "Tears and Cheers," but didn't stay long because Maddy filled her diaper and Sid was inquisitive.  The principal spoke and said he would be stopping by the classrooms and e-mailing us pictures today- how nice!?  If I can just get her back in the car at 2:50pm all will be well.  We will find a way to get her back to the classroom tomorrow :-)  (Having Maddy and Sid in busy hallways is pretty tight)

Ok, enough about my ramblings, here are some pics that Daddy took this morning...

Her lunch consisted of: lemonade, peanut butter and honey (she wanted lots of peanut butter because they allow you to take whatever you want- the past couple of years she has had no peanut butter because of kids with allergies in the school), chips, apple sauce, and I slipped in some graham cracker cookies as a special treat.

Special hand sanitizer that she picked out...
Her snack- yes, peanut butter, goldfish, and pretzels...

In her backpack, PTA registration forms, birthday book club form, hospitality committee form, pictures of Kate for the bulletin board, treasure chest items, and her snack.

I made a tag for her backpack that says she is riding in my car, I have a school bus too- just don't want her getting lost the first week :-)

Is this a mug shot?

Sid was a mess this morning- more than mom and dad!  I put a bib on him so he wouldn't get his breakfast on his white shirt and didn't even notice that it said "I love my big sister"- so appropriate.  He didn't want her to go and he wanted to stay at her table and play with play dough too.  Now, he is upstairs watching a movie in the media room drinking out of her other Hello Kitty bottle- poor guy.

This is Kate probably thinking "Yup, that's right, I am going to kindergarten and you're not..."

She said she would walk like a turtle- so slow- because her bag was so big.

After parking behind the school- going the back way...

In front of Ms. Larkin's room...isn't she way too little to be here?!!!  She wouldn't give us many big smiles...just too serious about getting school, I guess.

She and Mackey putting away their things in their locker- they had the same backpack!  So cute...

Finally, at my desk...

My sweet baby,  all grown up!

This was right before we left- I think she is thinking, "Ok, now what?"

Well, I know she will have a great day!  I am going to try to do something productive, right now I feel like a deer in the headlights...a little lost without her :-)  Oh, Sid just went to the potty by himself -hooray!-and Maddy is crying...I guess I will just stay busy...
