My second cousin, Sarah Vickers, has been on my heart lately. We are not close (I have not seen her since I was probably 6 or 8 yrs. old)...I had heard that she was in a bad car accident a few months ago, but only recently received more detailed information on her situation and progress.
She has a daughter 1 month younger than Kate and a 20 month old daughter. She is 30 and beautiful. My great aunt sent me a web site on her progress and it made me cry and cry. Now, that I have a child I realize how precious life is and time spent with our children. Sarah has been through a lot (bleeding in her brain, skull removal/replacement, dizziness, not walking, etc.). My heart goes out to her and her immediate family. I will be praying as often as I can remember (I hope daily) for her progress.
It is amazing to see how her mother, Carol, is praising God weekly on her progress- I can see how God is working in their lives and allowing them to bond and grow through this tragedy. If you would like to read about Sarah here is her website... www.caringbridge.com/visit/sarahvickers. Please join me in prayer for her healing and for her family.

We have introduced the cup to Kate a few times over the past couple of months and not had any interest from her to drink from it. She is happy to bang it around for a while. We found a new cup that seems to work great. It has a silicone top (made by Nuby) that allows her to bite down and get liquid, instead of sucking. She enjoyed some watered down apple juice + some sweet potato puffs- Yummy!
Justin has been working with Kate on walking. She crawls along very fast now and pulls up on everything she can grip on... She took a couple of steps with this walker and then fell to her knees. Practice makes perfect! :-)

Caption contest for last picture - "Hey Kate... Daddy will be watching TV, if you need something just push this little white button on the underside of your walker. It will buzz me"

"Now, Kate, when you get to the rental, make sure to collect the late fee also. Last time you forgot to collect the $25 fee. Don't make me take it out your allowance.

"my dearest Daughter Kate - it is now the 5th and you still haven't paid your rent... I'm going to have to start assessing late fees if we can't get this worked out"

Kate and I decided to go to Texas to visit family last week while Justin went to Kansas for his first week at Aldi's Olathe Division. It ended up being a very short trip due to the snowy weather. Kate did get to spend some time with her cousin, Jackson...
She also visited Nana and Papaw on the way home to Tulsa. There she met her Great Aunt Margaret and Cousin Carolyn.

Something about the first couple pictures reminded me of a Biblical story...something about Moses... Kate does look like a perfectly contented orphan.

Kate pulled herself up to her feet this Saturday, December 2nd!! I was talking to Auntie Em on the telephone when she went from knees to feet... Thank goodness for Emily telling me to get the camera! I seem to miss these moments because I am so excited and distracted!
Daddy came home to Kansas to find Kate getting up from a nap standing in her crib holding onto the top rail!

Wow!! What a big girl. I'm so glad I got to be a part of it. Even if I was a few hundred miles away!
